FAQ
The questions people ask most before paying their first bill.
Upload your bill to Billie or forward it by email. We’ll pull out the amount, payee, mailing address and any payment reference.
Review the details, make any corrections and approve the payment. We’ll arrange for the check to be printed and mailed.
Billie summarizes your bill and fills in editable payment details, so you can make changes before approving the check for mailing.
AI can make mistakes. You’re responsible for checking the amount, payee name, mailing address and any account or invoice reference against your original bill.
Billie isn’t responsible for errors in the details you approve or any resulting missed payments, late fees or other charges.
Bills from people or businesses that accept paper checks. Check your bill for the payment address—it may be different from the business’s usual address—and any reference they need to credit your account.
The current limit is $1,000 per check and $1,000 in total bill payments per user per day, excluding fees. Your recipient gets a regular paper check and doesn’t need a Billie account.
Choose your bank, follow the verification steps and select the account you want to pay from.
Our partners handle the bank connection and check mailing: Plaid connects your account, and Checkbook prints and mails the check using the bank details needed to draw it on your account.
No. Billie is a technology platform, not a money transmitter, and we do not hold a money transmitter license (MTL). We arrange for checks to be printed and mailed. We never hold the money you’re paying toward your bill.
The bill amount leaves your linked bank account when the recipient deposits the check. The Billie fee is charged separately when the check is sent. Make sure you keep enough money in your account until the check clears.
Plaid does not share your bank login credentials with Billie. Checkbook uses security paper with features that help protect checks against copying and alterations.
Your account and routing numbers appear on the check, just as they do on a check from your own checkbook. The recipient can see them, so only send payments to people or businesses you trust.
There’s a processing fee for each check, based on the bill amount:
| Bill amount | Billie fee |
|---|---|
| Up to $100 | $2.95 |
| $100.01–$500 | $4.95 |
| $500.01–$1,000 | $6.95 |
That includes processing, printing and standard mailing. A $100 bill costs $102.95 in total, and you’ll see the fee before approving payment.
Your bank may also charge fees for insufficient funds or a stop-payment request.
Allow 1–5 business days after mailing for standard U.S. delivery. Delivery dates are estimates, not guarantees.
The recipient will still need to deposit the check and credit your account. A delivered check doesn’t necessarily mean your bill has been marked paid yet.
Allow enough time for mailing and for the recipient to process your payment. Billie isn’t liable for mailing or processing delays, or any resulting late fees or other charges.
